DISTRICTS
The City of Dillon currently has two historic districts: National
Register Commercial district of 60 properties and a locally
designated residential district.

OVERLAY
ORDINANCE
In 2003 the City Council passed the Dillon Historic Overlay
Ordinance to identify Dillon Historic Designations: Commercial
Districts, Residential Districts, Neighborhoods, Notable Properties
and properties listed on the National Register of Historic Places
and to promote the educational, cultural and general welfare
of the public through the identification, preservation, protection
and enhancement of the historic or architecturally worthy structures
and properties and areas of the city; and to maintain such as
visible reminders of the history and cultural heritage of the
city, the state and the nation.
Ordinances
CERTIFIED
LOCAL GOVERNMENT (CLG)
By developing an effective preservation program and entering
into a partnership with the State Preservation Office and the
National Park Service to become a CLG, the city receives such
benefits as applications to funding that has been set aside
for CLG’s.
BOARD
OF ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW (BAR)
The Board of Architectural Review has been established for the
specific purpose of preservation and protection of Dillon’s
designated historic districts, properties and public areas within
the districts.
The BAR is a state recognized board (SC Code 6-29-710 and 6-29-870)
appointed by the City Council.
